Volunteer Opportunities

Your time and commitment will directly impact small and growing organizations whose work supports our diverse LGBTQ communities. Most positions do not require experience; many positions can be done remotely, in your free time, and on your schedule; and, you will have the opportunity to give back while growing your professional skills.


Check out just a few of our volunteer opportunities below:


Grants Committee

Participate in the committee that supports the BHT board of directors by managing the grant application process. The committee needs individuals who have strong administrative, coordinating/scheduling skills, are interested in learning more about the grants process and grant writing, and supporting and educating our grantees as well as answering any questions they may have during the application process. Experience is not required.  


Communications Committee

Help develop BHT’s community presence and brand image!  This vital committee supports all aspects of the organization, including grants, development, volunteers, and fundraising. This committee is comprised of sub committees, including:

  • The Social Media Team manages our presence across social media platforms working closely with the Content and Graphic Design subcommittees

  • The Content Team handles writing and editing (press releases, corporate communications, web content, social media content, newsletters, etc)

  • The Digital Team makes us look good by handling the graphic design and developing marketing materials.

  • The Web Design Team manages the tools that keep us running. This team is responsible for maintaining and updating our website, forms portal, volunteer database, and newsletter service. Experience is preferred.


Community Relations and Development

These individuals identify and develop community relationships with corporate and government organizations that will help us help our communities through corporate giving, estate giving, financial and goods/services donations (event space, door prizes, supplies/marketing materials), sponsorships, and public relations opportunities (newspapers, radio, events, etc). This team works closely with the Communications Committee and its subcommittees. Experience is preferred, but extroverts are encouraged to apply!


Events & Fundraising Committee

Identify and coordinate fundraising and public relations events, such as PRIDE, Gay night at National’s Stadium, bar nights, carnivals, and workplace giving campaigns (i.e., United Way, the Combined Federal Campaign, etc.) Works with the Volunteer Coordinator to identify and coordinate volunteers. Time and commitments vary based on availability, role, and event. Experience preferred but not required.


Members of this team also staff our events. Join this team to help support us at events across the region. Work the events that work for you. No experience required. 


Volunteer Coordinator

This role is key to making everything that BHT does happen! The successful candidate will recruit, engage, support, and manage volunteers and schedules. People and organizational skills are a must.
